Diane and the Berliner Spaetlesse Steppies

Since 2001 Diane has performed and taught tap dance to a group of approximately 8 east german ladies over the age of 70 years, currently over 80 years!!

They met working on a dance theatre production directed by Constanza Macras titled Mir – A Love Story which was performed for the first time at the Sophiensaele Theatre Berlin and then went on to The Place in London; Bordeaux, France; Vienna, Austria and Bremen Germany.

As a group they meet once a week to practice tap dance together. Diane has performed at various community events with the Ladies, such as Green Week, Day of the Open Door for the Police and also at various Senior events at the Volkssolidaritaet in Berlin.

In 2006 they took part in an artist residency at the fabrik Potsdam exploring the theme secrets and lies and produced a short dance video in collaboration with Laura Scarborough, titled Bleib Jung und Wundershoen.

In 2007 they also made a short appearance together in the German feature film Free Rayner, directed by Hans Weingartner.

They met regularly for tap dance classes for ten years and in 2008 collaborated with a group of teenagers on the subject Rebellion.

In 2009 we won the award for the most recognised community group in Berlin!!
